Dividend investing is one of the most common ways people invest in the stock market. What attracts people to it is the idea of earning passive income through dividend payments. Rather than having to sell shares of your holdings, you can remain fully invested and collect your dividend payments, regardless of how the market and your share prices are doing. Many people out there, including myself, are more motivated by receiving cash flow in the form of dividends every month or every quarter. And it’s been a favored way of investing since 1602, when the first publicly traded stock paid a dividend to its shareholders. Now according to the old school way we typically understand dividend investing, living off dividends is something that normally takes you many decades to achieve. Or it takes a tremendous amount of money, usually north of at least a million dollars, to start collecting worthwhile dividends.
