JP Morgan’s Answer to the JEPI Tax Problem: ROCY & ROCQ

If you hold JEPI or JEPQ in a taxable account, you already know the problem: those monthly distributions show up on your 1099 as ordinary income, and the tax bill can take a real bite out of your yield.
JP Morgan just launched two new ETFs designed to address exactly that — ROCY and ROCQ. Both use an actively managed equity portfolio with a laddered call-spread overlay, and both aim to deliver monthly distributions classified primarily as return of capital — meaning potential tax deferral instead of a fully taxable 1099.
But return of capital is not free money. In this video I break down exactly how these funds work, run the after-tax math against JEPI, and explain the catch most people miss: ROC reduces your cost basis, so you may pay for it later.
